Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange by trading volume, said on October 30, 2026 that a security incident had an estimated total impact of about $6.3 billion, the largest crypto theft on record and roughly four times the $1.5 billion Bybit hack of February 2025. Binance says a compromised DevOps engineer's laptop let the attacker reach a service container and submit unauthorized withdrawals, later found additional points of breach, and saw no evidence that wallet private keys leaked. About $3 billion has been frozen, including more than $1.57 billion by Tether and more than $800 million by Circle. TRM Labs and Chainalysis attribute the attack to North Korea's TraderTraitor group; Binance has not attributed it. Binance has reserved more than $6.34 billion to cover losses and targets resuming withdrawals within 40 hours of 2:34 pm UTC on October 30.
